Carrier’s X2 Special Edition Delivers Custom Look for Refrigerated Haulers

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 18, 2009 - A trailer refrigeration unit has never looked cooler than the X2 Special Edition now available from Carrier Transicold, part of Carrier Corp., a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The X2 Special Edition is a custom configured model 2100A refrigeration unit with a chrome grille and stainless accents, silver metal-flake paint job and a "Special Edition" emblem. But there is more to this machine than just exceptionally good looks. It also comes with Carrier’s Stealth® 2 sound-reduction package, an LED light bar and a control software bundle that can be used for fuel-efficiency performance optimization. Additionally, Carrier has included a five-year extended warranty and preventive maintenance package with the purchase of this unit.

With a tip of the hat to long-haul operators who pride themselves in their individualism, the package also includes a Special Edition X2 cap, shirt, belt-buckle and coffee mug. It was featured by Carrier this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

"The X2 Special Edition package is designed to appeal to the owner/operator who wants to stand out from the pack, but also wants convenience, efficiency and peace of mind when it comes to maintenance," said Joe Porto, director of Sales for Carrier Transicold.

"Many owner/operators take special pride in the appearance of their rigs, but don’t have at their disposal certain resources that a large fleet might have, such as a refrigeration service crew. With the preventive maintenance and service programs included, the X2 Special Edition provides tools and support through the Carrier dealer network that can alleviate concerns about downtime or unplanned expenses."

Part of Carrier’s family of EcoDrivenSM solutions, the X2 Special Edition uses a cleanburning 2.2-liter direct-injection engine that surpasses the requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 4-interim standard (Tier 4i), and outperforms competitive units with regard to particulate emissions. It is equipped with the sophisticated Advance™ microprocessor control configured with the IntelliSet™ option, which makes it easy to select optimum refrigeration profiles from a simple scrolling list of commodities.

"We’ve also included Carrier’s ReeferManager™ programming software, download cables and PC cards, giving owner/operators an extra measure of autonomy for configuring the reefer and adjusting operating profiles as they desire to help optimize fuel reduction," Porto said.

Designed with sound quality in mind, the X2 Special Edition has acoustic foam on the interior surfaces of the doors and features the new V-Force condenser fan that eliminates noisegenerating pulsations. The Stealth 2 package includes a tuned intake system that further suppresses noise.
