CARRIER’S NEW ROLE MODELS FEATURED AT MID-AMERICA TRUCKING SHOW LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 22, 2007 - The new role models in trailer refrigeration, Carrier Transicold’s X2-Series single-temperature trailer units, drew their biggest audience ever at the world’s largest trucking exhibition, the 2007 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. Carrier is a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSW: UTX). "Mid-America is a perfect showplace for the X2-Series," said Ignacio Aguerrevere, Carrier Transicold’s director of Marketing and Product Development. "Fleets and owner/operators have come to know the original X-Series as the standard of reliability and durability. These new-generation units build on that tradition of performance while adding an updated appearance, improved sound quality and superior serviceability." "Ever since the first production models rolled out late in 2006, they’ve proven to be a popular choice among customers," Aguerrevere added. "The unit is quieter and everyone likes the new look," said Richard Houska, maintenance manager for Holland Enterprises, Fargo, N.D. Houska credits the new access panels with making the units much easier to service. They are easy to open and close and provide access all the way to the top of the unit. Owner/operator Mark Jacobs has the optional chrome package on his 2500A unit, painted Prowler Purple to match his rig, which is used to haul frozen baking commodities between Pennsylvania, Chicago and Milwaukee. "A lot of guys ask me about it and say it’s really sharp. I’m really pleased with it. I always get great quality with Carrier. It has a much improved noise level and the pulldown is terrific." At the 36th annual Mid-America Trucking Show in March, Carrier featured a 2100A unit with optional chrome package, one of four trailer models offered in the X2-Series: the 2500A, 2100A, 2100 and 1800. Two additional versions, the 2500R and 2100R, are for rail/multi-modal applications. All feature outstanding performance. At a setpoint of 35°F at 100°F ambient, the 2500A and 2500R have a cooling capacity of 66,000 BTU/h. At the same conditions, the 2100A, 2100R and 2100 deliver 64,000 BTU/h, and the 1800 provides 51,000 BTU/h. "What distinguishes an X2 unit from the original X generation," said Aguerrevere, "is its better appearance, better sound and better serviceability." Better Appearance: The exterior redesign of the X2-Series provides more than just a modern new appearance. Compared to the X-Series’ panels, X2-Series doors, made of advanced DuraShell™ 2 material, have triple the impact strength, double the UV light resistance, 50 percent better thermal stability and 20 percent better heat resistance. Better Sound: Improved sound quality comes from several design changes. Full-length side doors, door seals and tighter tolerances reduce noise levels. The DuraShell 2 twin-sheet panel construction, acoustic foam on the interior surfaces and integrated door seals help contain sound output. The redesigned grille’s wider openings reduce airflow resistance, helping to further improve sound quality. For additional sound reduction, an optional composite bottom panel is available. Better Serviceability: X2-Series models are the only refrigeration units with hinged side doors that open all the way to the top, providing total access with the flip of a single latch on each side door. The front panels swing open from the center with a single latch release. Also, the control box is larger with a tilted display that is easier for drivers and technicians to read. "Our mechanics love the unit," said Earl Braman, shop foreman at Halvor Lines in Superior, Wisc. "Maintenance is easier because of the better accessibility." The X2-Series continues the fuel-saving tradition inherent in the design of Carrier XSeries systems: a combination of a high-performance six-cylinder compressor and a fuelefficient 2.2-liter DI (direct injection) engine.
