COMFORTPRO™ APU INTRODUCED BY CARRIER LOUISVILLE, Ky. March 22, 2006 - Carrier Transicold’s ComfortPro™ Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) made its debut today at the Mid-America Trucking Show, bringing to the trucking industry a better way to cut idling, dramatically reduce fuel consumption and enjoy the comforts of home on the road. Through a new agreement between Carrier, a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) and Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX), Carrier Transicold is the exclusive worldwide distributor of the new ComfortPro APU. "We’re introducing the ComfortPro APU at the Mid-America Trucking Show because it is the world’s largest heavy-duty trucking event," said Ignacio Aguerrevere, director of marketing and product development, Carrier Transicold Truck/Trailer/Rail Americas. "We believe the addition of the ComfortPro APU to our product line represents a significant development for the entire trucking industry." "In a typical application, the ComfortPro APU can reduce idling by up to 90 percent, saving thousands of dollars annually in fuel costs, while also reducing emissions, engine wear and associated maintenance costs. The ComfortPro APU is unique in that it offers an all-electric architecture. It, shares the award-winning Deltek™ hybrid diesel-electric technology found in Carrier’s Vector™ 1800MT trailer refrigeration unit.
The ComfortPro APU provides:
Unlike some competitive systems, Comfortpro does not draw power from the truck battery. It directly powers its cooling and heating system and all household appliances through its 4,000- watt generator, which is driven by the unit’s Kubota diesel engine - the same proven engine used in other Carrier transport refrigeration systems. The same way Carrier’s Deltek technology-based systems use a sealed compressor in the refrigeration circuit, the ComfortPro unit employs a sealed electric-powered compressor, located in the cabin, for air conditioning. This results in a significant increase in reliability and a reduction in maintenance compared to belt-driven, open-drive compressors located in road- and vibration-exposed APU housings. The ComfortPro APU features an easy-to-use multi-function control module with a backlit digital display that mounts inside the sleeper cab. The APU unit is housed in a weather-tight, shock resistant case that mounts on the truck chassis using up to 25 percent less frame rail space than other APUs. Designed for easy maintenance, the oil, air, fuel filters and oil can be changed in less than five minutes. It has an industry leading two-year, 4,000-hour warranty.
